How to Play

Chinese Chess (Xiangqi) is played on a 10×9 board with a river dividing the two sides. Each player commands 16 pieces: one General, two Advisors, two Elephants, two Horses, two Chariots, two Cannons, and five Soldiers. The General must stay within the 3×3 palace, and Elephants cannot cross the river. Horses can be blocked by pieces in their path. Cannons move like Chariots but must jump over exactly one piece to capture. The goal is to checkmate or stalemate the opponent's General.

Controls

Click a piece to select it — legal moves will be highlighted on the board. Click a valid intersection to move the piece there. Click elsewhere or click the same piece again to deselect.

Tips & Strategy

Control the center of the board with your Chariots and Cannons early on. Develop your Horses quickly but watch for leg-blocking pieces. Keep your General protected by Advisors and don't leave it exposed on an open file — the two Generals cannot face each other directly.
